UbuCon Asia 2024 - Call for proposals

Youngbin Han tells of the ‘call for proposals’ for UbuCon Asia 2024. Along with introductory details of the conference, we’re given specific details as to the tracks and topics where submissions are requested. Along with a list of the key dates (proposals must be submitted prior to 13 April 2024) we’re asked to help spread the word about UbuCon Asia 2024, with links if we have questions.

Catalan Team: Call for participation in the Noble Festival

wgarcia reports that on 18 May 2024 a celebration of the next Ubuntu release will be held at “l’Institut Alfons Costafreda, Av. Tarragona, 0, 25300 Tàrrega, Lleida”. If you have a talk for this event, a email is provided for sending proposals.

Ubuntu Quality - Communications and Testing Practices

Philipp Kewisch informs us that the Ubuntu 24.04 Testing Week has concluded, and he gives us his observations about chatter on the various Ubuntu Testing/Quality communications channels. Due to the scattered channels, in the effort to “find out which conversations are happening where and when”, Philipp leads us to a proposal to seek a means to consolidate communications channels. Philipp ends by asking what types of conversations and activities would be appropriate and helpful in improving Ubuntu Quality.

Ubuntu To Feature Linux Kernel 6.8 With A Blend Of Stability And Innovation

Akanksha Gaur writes about the recent release of the Linux kernel 6.8, before telling us it will be the GA kernel stack for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. We’re told of some of the benefits found in the Linux 6.8 kernel, which we’ll find in the upcoming Ubuntu release (and will make it to Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS in due course).

Mesa 24.1 Enables Intel Xe Kernel Driver Support By Default

Michael Larabel reminds us the Intel Xe kernel graphics driver was upstreamed in Linux 6.8, but required an option to be enabled for Mesa builds. This default will change with Mesa 24.1 coming “next quarter”. This post gives details of this change, and includes a link to the merge request that changes the ‘out of the box’ defaults.

LXD 5.21 LTS Released With UI By Default, AMD SEV Memory Encryption For VMs

Michael Larabel reports the release of LXD 5.21 by Canonical. Along with discussion of the Incus fork, we’re told Canonical has put effort into new features within 5.21, briefly mentioning some and providing a link to the official announcement.
