UbuCon Asia 2025 Call for Proposals is now Open!

Muhd Syazwan Md Khusaini announces “the call for proposals for UbuCon Asia 2025 are now open”. We’re reminded what UbuCon Asia is, told where and when it is, and given links for more (including link to Youngbin Han’s older blog). We’re also given a list of tracks, but told we are to see this list as a guide. We’re asked to help spread the word, and told where we can go if we have questions.

Triple Buffering, a debrief

Daniel Van Vugt reminds us triple buffering for GNOME recently landed in Mutter 48. We’re told here of the “multi-year effort”, going from the appearance at an Ubuntu Desktop hack day, through to today. This is a detailed post, with Daniel trying to outline it “isn’t as simple and straightforward as one might expect”, with this hopefully a useful learning presentation.

Ubuntu Foundations 25.04 - Plucky Puffin progress

Matthieu Clemenceau gives us an update on progress towards Ubuntu 25.04; given that we’re now past the midpoint of cycle. Matthieu acknowledges and thanks Steve Langasek (vorlon) reminding us of what we’ve lost. We’re reminded Jon Seager is now VP of Ubuntu Engineering with links for other posts to learn more, before moving to the Foundations team updates. We’re minded of 24.04.2’s recent release, Feature Freeze for 25.04, given lists of component & toolchain updates, before moving to what’s new. This is a long post, with a reminder the Ubuntu 25.04 beta releasing on March 27, 2025.

Announcing Meetingology: Matrix Edition

Simon Quigley (tsimonq2) Makes his work known: “I have written an initial prototype of a brand new Matrix bot designed to replace meetingology.” Simon relates some community history that prompts the move to Matrix; and, he provides the logging bot in accommodation to the community feedback for this need. We’re reminded its based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, told its a small update, but adds support for Volla Phone X23 and Volla Phone 22 devices and more. “O Diogo continua a braços com pacotes super manhosos que ele compila e o resultado Ă© menos do que desejĂĄvel; o Miguel arranjou um computador que larga lascas pegajosas de material duvidoso para poder viajar no tempo; a Mozilla continua a armar bronca com as mudanças nos termos de utilização do Firefox. Meio mundo desatou a instalar LibreWolf e trĂȘs gatos pingados desataram a instalar IceCat. O Chrome continua alegremente o seu monopĂłlio de captura de dados para venda e a Mozilla fita-o com inveja.
