I wanted to install Ubuntu 20.04.1 on my laptop, DELL xps-13 9370.
It has already run Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04 and currently 22.04.
Unfortunately when I boot on USB Flash drive, I have a background screen with “Oh no! Something has gone wrong” (see screenshot).
I have a small window where I can hardly enter some install parameters, and when I validate “live Ubuntu” and not install nothing happen and I have only the background screen.
So sorry for the delay, but I went to buy another USB-C - UBS-A adapter and an USB-C key just to try. Unfortenately, it didn’t solve the problem, I have the same problem using an USB-C and another adapter.
Hi Federica,
When I try to switch to the terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F3, I got a strange blinking prompt that disapear almost immediately
Yes and I used it successfully on my DELL Latitude 6520.

Try redoing whatever command you did and prefixing it with LANG=C for something not in French, e.g. LANG=C inxi. I’m not suggesting that command, per se, though.
I’m not sure why the release schedule for Noble wasn’t updated for it, but it’s delayed until the 20th. The HWE kernel was missing in most images. That shouldn’t affect vanilla Ubuntu (as far as I know), though, if that is what you’re using. You can download daily images, but I can’t guarantee they will be in a "beta’ state. Still, for testing purposes, it might be good. Go to the testing tracker for Plucky, click on the flavor version you want, and then click on the “Link to download instructions.” That would be here for vanilla Ubuntu amd64.
It worked but it seems to be for the future 25.04 release, not a 24.04.2 - Noble Numbat. Moreover the image does not seem to use the same installation screen, I directly have a desktop even if it is quite long.
So 16GB of RAM? If so, that eliminates my primary concern.
Maybe this is some kind of graphics issue but if you can’t get to a virtual terminal (that’s what was suggested with the CtrlAltF3 thing, there’s no real way to investigate that. Unless there’s some other way to get to a terminal.
Excuse my ignorance about the installer, but I primarily contribute to Lubuntu and we use a different installer (where it’s actually rather easy to get to a terminal or anything else).
I can confirm I experience exactly the same issue. I wanted to just try Ubuntu 24.04.2 (Try Ubuntu without installing) but I’ve got the same error you’ve got.
I’ve build the bootable usb according to documentation: Create a bootable USB stick with Rufus on Windows | Ubuntu
thanks @fcodvpt !
I’ve added myself to the bug report.
I think I will give 22.04.5 a try, considering it has standard support until 04-2027 is not a bad option and I have the feeling it will work.
