Problem Description: Can apt modernize-source be used on Ubuntu 22.04 BEFORE upgrading to 24.04?
After modernizing the sources does apt still work in Ubuntu 22.04 with DEB822 sources?
Ubuntu 22.04 works with DEB822 sources, but I don’t think the modernize-source option works on 22.04

Apt modernize would be very useful in Ubuntu 22.04 to facilitate upgrades to 24.04 because changing the sources.list is the most frequent problem.
well, update-manager does work with either sources.list type (well, it just uses apt after all) so you don’t really need the switch before the upgrade, it can as well happen as one of the first things afterwards in some automatic fashion …
Update manager works well if sources are clean. Modernizing sources before upgrade would allow you to understand and solve problems before finding yourself with a difficult upgrade.
In the forum I frequent I see many failed upgrade problems due to non-regular sources.
