Include Performance tooling in Ubuntu

Robie Basak writes of a specification on enabling frame pointers in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by default. This addition is to support ‘performance engineers’; enhancing performance management and optimization. This post gives details, and the specification, including links and more details. Noted are some expected negative consequences (with examples as details), wherein “we consider that the benefits outweigh these”.

Kernel Accessories Seed and Metapackage

Robie Basak writes a specification on a “new kernel-accessories seed and metapackage to abstract a list of default packages for installers and image generators to use”. The rationale for this is provided (including a link to the performance tooling specification) which covers LXD images too. This spec will take effect starting with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

Ubuntu 20th Anniversary - Party Planning

Philipp Kewisch reminds us that Ubuntu 24.10 will see the 20th anniversary of Ubuntu. This post seeks to “gather some input from the community on how you think we should celebrate”. We’re asked what Ubuntu means to us, what we like, and what Ubuntu was like back when we started using it, before being asked to consider Ubuntu’s future. Do we have any party plans, or ideas on an appropriate celebration? Ideas are solicited from community members so as to make this a “stellar milestone”.

UbuCon @ SCaLE 21x - Schedules and Call for Booth Volunteers

Jason C. Nucciarone asks if we’re heading for SCaLE 21x. We’re given details of the schedule and told there is a Ubuntu booth at the conference, where volunteers are sought to help staff that booth. If we’re interesting in volunteering, we’re told how to express this & choose our time.
