Kernel Development Release Cadence and Deprecation of linux-modules-extra

Kleber Souza reminds us of snapshots and benefits, as well as Canonical’s kernel team commitments to latest kernel releases. We’re told the 6.15 kernel is available for testing with Ubuntu questing, with 6.16 already being tested by the team and will be available soon. We’re told the release kernel for Ubuntu 25.10 is expected to be 6.17. We’re also told the 6.15 kernel also includes the “long-planned deprecation of the linux-modules-extra package”, giving details on why, plus a link to the removal bug. We’re told a “seamless transition” is expected, but to get in contact if there are questions or issues encountered.

A good thing by Bashing-om

Why do I participate in producing this Newsletter you may ask. Consider. I use a quality operating system, I pay - nothing. I receive quality support for this operating system, I pay - nothing. I ask any question and I receive a quality answer, for which I pay - nothing. These are all good things. Whatever I can do to promote this - is a good thing.
