UbuCon Africa @ DjangoCon Africa 2025

When we announced UbuCon Europe @ OpenSouthCode earlier this year, we mentioned “More UbuCons around the world” :earth_africa:, and we really meant it.
Thanks to the wonderful people of DjangoCon Africa, Ubuntu found a home for the very first UbuCon Africa! :tada:
We are very excited to be part of a week of learning, sharing, and connecting in Arusha, Tanzania, from August 11 to August 15.

Co-locating the first UbuCon Africa with the passionate Django community is going to be an exciting experience.
We cannot wait to find points in common, host and attend amazing sessions, engage in workshops, and network with like-minded individuals. :handshake:

Last but not least, we want to hear feedback from the African open source community, spread more orange :orange_heart:, and create more Circles of Friends.

After all, Ubuntu is an African word. And as our dear friend Ngazetungue Muheue mentioned at the Ubuntu Summit 2024, in Africa, if you are from a Bantu-speaking community, nobody needs to explain the meaning of Ubuntu to you.

So here we are: answering the call of our friends, supporting the African open source community by getting involved with local events and communities, speaking about open source, and teaching new skills through engaging workshops. :books:

We hope this is the first of a long series of UbuCon Africa events!

Are you ready to join UbuCon Africa @ DjangoCon Africa 2025? We can’t wait to meet you this summer in Tanzania! :tanzania:
