Merlijn Sebrechts updates the Call for nominations 2024 Ubuntu Technical Board thread. Though it was updated the timeline no longer applies, as the voting cycle has been extended by a month. We’re told as the timeline will be delayed, the new timeline dates will be added when known.

Advanced Intel® Battlemage GPU features now available for Ubuntu 24.10

Chris Schnabel informs us that “Intel and Canonical are excited to announce the availability of an Ubuntu graphics preview for Intel Arc B580 and B570 ‘Battlemage’ discrete GPUs”. We’re told it ‘builds’ on what was previously available, with the preview available to be enabled today. Along with details, we’re also provided a link to the intel-graphics preview GitHub README.

Xfce 4.20 released

These are the release notes for Xfce 4.20 found on Alexxcon’s software development blog. We’re told the release contains almost two years of work, that almost all Xfce components are able to run on Wayland (with thanks given to specific developers), before it moves to giving specific details about the included apps and Xfce components. This is a long thread, with numerous example screenshots, and concludes offering thanks to various sponsors of the project.

Linux Mastodon App Tuba Updated with Post Scheduling, Drafts + More

Joey Sneddon writes about a new version of Tuba which is an open-source Mastodon client. We’re given details, some screenshots, as well as a list of changes in this new 0.9.0 version, and a link to the code on GitHub.

Ubuntu Adds Support for Unicode’s Newest Emoji

Joey Sneddon tells us that Ubuntu has added support for Unicode’s newest Emoji via an updated version of Noto Color Emoji font. We’re given the reason for this update in a quote by Canonical’s Jeremy Bicha. A later amendment to the article highlights the updated package (still in proposed at the time) triggered a regression in another package, which has resulted in the package release being paused; we’re told we may not get it till after Christmas.

NVIDIA Driver 565 Available to Install in Ubuntu / Linux Mint via PPA

Ji m tells us the latest NVIDIA 565.77 driver package is available for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 24.10 via PPA. We’re given the commands to install it, some details of why we’d want it, numerous screenshots, and even details on how to remove it if required.
