LXD: Weekly News #393

The highlight of the past week is the improvement of volume metadata for backups, moving LXD’s Disaster Recovery framework another important step forward. Additionally, the documentation for network ACLs was significantly improved, and the support for all-projects across LXD entities was further expanded.

We’re given a quick reminder that people do like lightweight, what Xfce is and how it matches that need, before moving to the Xubuntu details. We’re told Xubuntu is “classic”, shown a screenshot, reminded its highly configurable, and warned if we try it, we might find ourselves switching to it.

UFC Flutter Desktop Jam

This post tells us of a Flutter Desktop Application Jam, giving details: what this is, the rules (which include date of July 27, 2025), where to go if we have questions, submissions, how judging is done, and more. Ubuntu finally Made NVIDIA 570 for 24.04 | 22.04 Desktop

Ji m tells us Ubuntu has backported the latest NVIDIA 570 drivers for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 24.10 installs. We’re briefly told of some of the benefits found in this driver, some [game] apps that will be improved, before we’re told how to install this driver.

Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka” Opens For Development

Michael Larabel informs us Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka” is open for development. With a link to Utkarsh Gupta’s announcement, Michael comments that Ubuntu 25.10 should be a ‘busy’ and ‘notable’ cycle, and gives some details of what to expect. Michael ends that he’ll keep us informed as different features land.
