LXD: Weekly news #379

The highlight of the past week are enhanced network pages in LXD UI with a visual representation of the network connections. LXD has also received several bug fixes in preparation for the upcoming 5.21.3 and 6.3 releases.

Linus Torvalds Adapts Linux User Address Masking To Use CMOV

Michael Larabel tells us that whilst merging pull requests for the Linux 6.14 cycle, Linus Torvalds merged some of his own code as well. We’re told of the changes Linus made, given a quote from the patch, and given links if we need more.

AMD Announces The AMDGPU Composition Stack “ACS” For Advanced Linux Desktop Features

Michael Larabel informs us that AMD engineers have announced a new project “further outside the scope of their open source graphics drivers”. We’re given some details of the AMDGPU Composition Stack (ACS) which will deliver new features atop Wayland. We’re told it’s a fork of the Wayland Weston compositor, which is being used to experiment with newer features in order to “extract the best out of AMD Display and Graphics [hardware]”. Ubuntu 24.04.2 Arrives Feb 13 with Linux Kernel 6.11

Joey Sneddon writes that Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS will be released on February 13, 2025. We’re told the date was shared by Canonical’s Florent Jacquet, and reminded what this release is about.

GNOME 47.3 Improves Frame Rate for Monitors Attached to Secondary GPUs

Marius Nestor reports on the release of GNOME 47.3. We’re given some details of the fixes included in this maintenance update with detail for the various apps and added support.
