Ubuntu 24.10 (Oracular Oriole) Beta released

Utkarsh Gupta reports the release of Ubuntu 24.10 (Oracular Oriole) beta for Ubuntu Desktop, Server and Cloud, as well as many flavors. This announcement gives us details (including links) and lists the flavors. Note is made of three flavors which are yet to release their beta, with these expected to release on Monday.

Ubucon Portugal 2024 needs you!

Diogo Constantino writes to advise that “The call for volunteers for Ubucon Portugal 2024 is now open!”. Diogo reminds us that these events are by the community and for the community, and what the goals are. Volunteers are sought to assist in multiple roles for the event taking place at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro between October 11 and 12 during the Free Software Festival 2024.

Call for testing: ubuntu-frame, mir-test-tools on the 22 track (Mir 2.17.2 update)

MichaƂ Sawicz reminds us of the Mir 2.17.2 release, and tells us that the mir-test-tools and ubuntu-frame snaps have been updated, and testing would be appreciated. We’re told how to update these snaps, to use them normally and report any problems encountered.

Ubuntu Desktop’s 24.10 Dev Cycle - Part 6: September Update

Proposal Seeks To Replace MySQL With MariaDB By Default For Ubuntu 25.04

Michael Larabel writes about a proposal by Otto KekĂ€lĂ€inen to replace Oracle MySQL server with MariaDB starting in Ubuntu 25.04. We’re told this will bring Ubuntu in line with other distributions, and given a link to the mailing list so as to follow the thread.

Valve’s Proton 9.0-3 Brings Support For More Games On Linux, Many Fixes
