Ubuntu Discourse policy change: Technical Support topics are now welcome

Hi everyone,

We have made an important change to Ubuntu Discourse.

As of 2024-11-21, Technical Support topics are now welcome in our newly-renovated Support and Help category.

We welcome the lively and friendly UbuntuForums community, which is currently transitioning to their new home here on Discourse.

  • If you are trying to ask a support question, start here.

  • If you are a new user unable to create a new topic:

    1. Be sure you are in the Support and Help category ONLY.
    2. Be sure you have searched for answers for at least 15 minutes. That’s all you need to reach Trust Level 1, which turns on your ability to create a new question.
    3. DON’T hijack an existing question as a workaround. That’s how people get banned.
    4. If you still need help, ask for help in the Cannot post topic.

Why do we have a reading requirement to post your first question? Well, because the Discourse developers wrote the software that way. We’ve tried to make it easier to post without opening the floodgates to spam. 15 minutes is the compromise.

We are still in early days. We’re testing it, and discovering the problems while live. So we appreciate everybody’s patience while we work out the kinks and help make Ubuntu Discourse a better place for everybody.

You are welcome to ask questions or point out pain points below, or you are welcome to PM any moderator, or to contact the Canonical Community Team.

  • Exception: “I can’t post” comments will be deleted. See the section above: “If you are a new user unable to create a new topic”
