Website reboot

Chad feel free to jump in. I hope @aaronprisk can get you squared away with a LoCo for your area :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks!!

I really do think this is something that will go over well here in the St. Louis area.

Hello @cmccullough!
There was a Missouri LoCo team that appears to be long inactive. If it’s something that you would be interested in rebooting, you could put in a request with the new Loco Council once it becomes active in the coming weeks.

Feel free to send me a DM and we can chat about it!

Hey @popey I heard you talk about needing a logo in the last Linux Matters podcast - made a quick one here

I quite like the idea of this one. To me though the Union Jack doesn’t look like it is quite centered within the ubuntu logo. Great first effort looks real good.

2 posts were split to a new topic: Northern Ireland inclusion

Thanks @Ernmander - I centered it a bit here.

i notice this has stalled a bit. happy to take a look at tidying up some rough edges on the current version of the fork of the korean template.

Absolutely feel free to jump in

So, things that need doing:

  • Figure out how we can change the ubuntu-uk DNS to point to the github host
  • Get more people making changes to update the site to look like a fresh new place for people in the UK to visit
  • Land the changes and get DNS pointed to the right place

I have a PR incoming to perform a bit of website tidyup, but I’m lacking a few things to write on the replacement for this page. https://ubuntu-uk.github.io/about/ I could fill it with lorem ipsum until anyone has some content (if that’s easier?)

We definitely need the logo changing, use the one from the Matrix Room or Socials for now. It might be worth copying and pasting the text from the old ubuntu uk LoCo wiki for now. UKTeam - Ubuntu Wiki

This is the logo we are using until we come to an agreement of a final one.
ubuntu uk no words

We have been using the content below as a filler at OpenCon:

We believe that everyone has something to contribute to the Ubuntu community. Whether you are a passionate user, a developer, or a translator, you are invited to get involved in the Ubuntu-UK LoCo.

We aim to provide free community support to users of the various flavours of Ubuntu as well as advocating the use of Ubuntu to individuals and organisations alike.

Ubuntu-UK LoCo is in the rebuilding stage. This is part of the LoCo rejuvenation that is happening throughout the world.

Where We Need Help

The main area we need help in is getting the Ubuntu-UK LoCo website up and running. If you are Hugo savvy this would help immensely. Details for that task are here: Website reboot

Just checked the work on the site you have done. It looks great

PRs were merged - Getting the DNS changed seems to be the current blocker.

Nice one @sbutcher
I don’t know how we do that. I vaguely recall there being a tool you could use to self-serve this, but I don’t know what the process is now. Maybe @aaronprisk knows?

We have this tool for LoCo admins to update their DNS records: LoCoTeamsDNSAdmin - Ubuntu Wiki
If you run into any problems, please do let me know.
