What is Ubuntu’s Upcoming Security Center GUI Tool All About?

Sourav Rudra talks briefly about security applications, before focusing in on a ‘Security Center’ developed by Canonical for Ubuntu. We’re reminded it appeared first in the roadmap for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS back in 2023, but didn’t make it before release. We’re told of the four key areas the app tries to deal with: encryption, Ubuntu Pro settings, Network (including firewall), and apps. The app currently deals only with app permissions, and Sourav outlines his testing of it on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. A provided GIF image highlights intended usage, and we’re told how we can try it if we’re using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or the alpha of Ubuntu 24.10.

Added about Starcraft Clinic and UbuCon Asia.

Thanks @soumyadghosh , I’ve slightly altered the formatting (some formatting just for this site, but this page is read by scripts that detect & use some of the [extra] formatting; why we have closing-### etc on lines when discourse doesn’t require them.

I’ve commented out your Starcraft Clinic ‘summary’ as it appeared to be a copy/paste from Starcraft Clinic 2024-Aug-30 - #6 by mr_cal - snapcraft - snapcraft.io and isn’t a summary that fits our Style Guidelines (Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter / Style Guidelines) where it should be 1-4 sentences etc. We don’t need to exactly fit our guidelines (they are guidelines & not rules!) but what appears wasn’t I felt close. @Bashing can comment (inside doc) too if he deems worthwhile, and feel free to comment via comments in doc yourself if helpful (We remove comments prior to publish).

Maybe helpful is a quick look at what was done with issue 854

Starcraft Clinic 2024-Aug-16

Meeting summary includes the topics: Remote Build, Mesa, dotnet snap, Snapcraft 7, Riscv64, and more. Thanks are given to all who sponsored and to those who joined.

https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/starcraft-clinic-2024-aug-16/41427/4

That summary [from issue 854] is quick & easy to write, alas generic, but you can adjust & ensure it gets something key across too when you write it yourself.
