Wallpaper competition - Disco Dingo

UPDATE: This thread is now closed and judging has begun here:

I have edited this thread to remove anything which is not an entry to the competition to make it easier for people voting.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to create these awesome images, good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone,

It’s about time we kicked off the wallpaper competition for 19.04 the Disco Dingo

This time around we’d like to try something a bit different which will hopefully make it easier to enter your pictures, give a wider section of the community a say in which wallpapers are selected, and generate a bit more buzz.

Here’s how we’d like it to work:

To enter, simply post your image in to this thread.

We will close this thread towards the beginning of March (exact date TBD, and depends on how many entries we get) when the competition for 19.04 will close and the judging will begin. There will be a poll for the community to vote for their favourites. There will also be a judging panel made up of community contributors, developers and other Ubuntu supporters. Exact names TBC.

There are a few rules though. Please make sure you are happy to submit your work under these rules before you post it. Posting your images here indicates acceptance of the rules.

The images you upload must be yours. If you see an image which you know to be misrepresented please flag it and we will take care of it.

You don’t have to upload the full size image to the hub. In fact, if might be easier if you don’t since this thread will become very slow to load. We will need an image of ideally 3840x2160 px for the final submission, but we can get that from you later on if your image is selected. For now, limit your images a bit to try and keep the file size down.

As mentioned above, the final image size needs to be 3840x2160 px. Images much smaller than this won’t scale up well. Equally images with a lot of compression artifacts won’t look good. Your image won’t be accepted if the quality is low.

All watermarks, names, logos, etc must be removed.

Your image(s) must licenced under the CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC BY 4.0 licence. If you do not specify a licence in your post then we will assume that you are are licensing the image under the CC BY-SA 4.0. By entering the competition you are agreeing to these licence terms.

UbuntuFreeCultureShowcase - Ubuntu Wiki

I’d like to have a “best of” for the next LTS, so winners from Disco (19.04), E (19.10) and F itself will all appear on 20.04 LTS.

Get snapping!

Hi, I’m a simple user, I can’t speak english well, I’m sorry and apologize that.
about the size : you said 3840x2160 px
it isn’t 3840x2400 instead ? I read «Take a look at the wallpapers guidance on the Ubuntu Wiki regarding the size of images. Our target resolution is 3840 x 2400.» in the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFreeCultureShowcase

other question
How much pictures, can be submit here by the same person ?

I’ve had this photo for a while and really like the color and depth. The original is 4000x3000 original photo taken with a digital camera 24 bits per pixel. This one is reduced to 1280x960. Thank you for your consideration.

Both pictures are taken in Belgium, the first on the Belgian coastline, the second in the Antwerp Zoo. They both have a basic colour filter from Google Photos.

The original pictures are 3840 x 2160 px, 300 ppi and in the RGBA color space.

I’ve submitted this one before, but it didn’t make the cut. I think that’s a shame because it really looks beautiful as desktop wallpaper and the colors (aubergine, orange and a hint of brown) fit the Ubuntu color palette perfectly.

The photos were taken in Ria Formosa (near the Quinta do Lago), Portugal.
The original resolution is: 4000×3000; 4000×2786 and 4000×2209
If necessary I can change the resolution.

In case nobody want a bug :honeybee: on their desktop  I’ll submit two more from the garden:

All of my images were built in Inkscape. I scaled these down to 1280x720 but 3840x2160 was default. I can also supply the SVG files if need be.
