Happy new year everyone! While we’re currently preparing UbuCon Asia 2025 this year, We’re announcing that we’re now also accepting bids for UbuCon Asia 2026. If you would like to host UbuCon Asia 2026 in your city, Please have a look at details below and submit bid to host the event.

UbuCon Asia

UbuCon Asia is a community driven and organized event that brings together people with diverse backgrounds across Asia with one thing in common: Ubuntu and FOSS - to explore what we can do with Ubuntu and FOSS and how we can contribute to its projects and communities.

The event usually happens annually during 3rd quarter of each year. And it accommodates around 300 participants for 2 conference days and 30~50 to participants for day trip right after conference days. Learn more on our website and docs.

Submitting bid

Bids for UbuCon Asia since 2025 are now discourse posts created from the template we provide. To start preparing your bid, simply go to UbuCon Asia Bid Template and click New topic from this template button on top. Then set the title, category and tags as below.

Once done, since there are many content to fill out for the bid, It’s better to create or save the post first. Then you can click edit button to continue preparing your bid. (Don’t forget to save the draft so that you won’t loose contents you’ve been filling in) Each section of the bid template provide guidance on what you need to prepare and what information you need to provide. You may follow guidance to fill out contents.

Please also note that your bid should demonstrate that:

  • The location is easily accessible by plane or train from major cities in Asia
  • You have a motivated local team with a few core members, preferably with experience in event organisation
  • A suitable venue is available to host the event
  • There are affordable accommodations and places to eat
  • There is a local industry and government support
  • Your local team can raise and handle funding and contracts for the event

Once you’re ready to submit your bid, please reply to this post with link to your bid on discourse. Then it’s ready to be reviewed.

Countries not eligible for the bid

Note that following countries already hosted UbuCon Asia in recent years are not eligible for bids this time. As one of this event’s purpose is to engage with diverse Ubuntu LoCos in Asia.

  • South Korea(2022)
  • Indonesia(2023)
  • India(2024)
  • Nepal(2025)

Deadline

Deadline to submit your bid would be 2025-03-31T23:59:59Z. Our goal is to announce next location during UbuCon Asia in Kathmandu, Nepal this year. But depending on circumstances, We may extend deadline and postpone announcement. We’ll make announcement in this case.
