Last weekend (2024-10-12T01:00:00Z→2024-10-14T09:00:00Z), Korean LoCo participated GopherCon Korea 2024 - An annual Go programming language community conference in Korea organized Golang Korea.
There were many history of helping or collaborating with other tech communities in Korea in terms of promotion activities, on-site volunteering or sharing some event organizing practices. But it was first time for us to sponsor event of other communities in cash other then UbuCon Asia.
For that, we got a community booth (shared with Python Korea and AWSKRUG which are also sponsor (community partner level) of the event) at the venue. For 2 days, the booth was manned by me(@sukso96100), @zeroday0619 and @Silica
While we’ve been distributing some Ubuntu stickers and promoting our upcoming events (Ubuntu 24.10 Release party in Phoang (Nov 9) and Busan (Nov 16)), There were of course many people visited our booth. Some were folks just get to know about Ubuntu, Some were heard about it but not tried out yet and there also some folks uses Ubuntu at Home but uses other linux distro at work (such as RedHat or Amazon Linux). We had some time to chat with our visitors about some recently released Ubuntu 24.04 and 24.10 as well as what our LoCo is doing and our upcoming events.
The event venue, The Lit (A Cafe with a large garden as well as 2 large garage space that can be used for events and exhibitions) was very unique compared to other events that uses university or a convention hall. For me it was quite far from home to attend (2 hours by local transportations). But it was worth attending thanks to the event’s nice venue.
I especially liked the lunch served and the large garden and the cafe which is usually difficult to find at other events. While I was mostly at the booth, I also enjoyed having some time relaxing at the garden.
I edited and published a aftermovie on YouTube after attending GopherCon Korea 2024. If you wonder how the event was, you might want to watch it
