I have been using Ubuntu for a long time, but recently, I did a fresh install of Noble Numbat and thought: “Wow, these wallpapers are absolutely breathtaking!”
I certainly feel lucky to have been able to see so many stunning wallpapers delivered to my desktop with every release of Ubuntu. Wouldn’t it be great if we could easily share those with people who use different operating systems?
While it might be complicated to implement Ubuntu themes on other operating systems, it is also true that many of us spend a lot of time in the browser, and Chromium-based browsers are cross-platform.
After a quick search, I found out that Chrome and Chromium-based browsers support themes and New Tab Page images; so off I went into a rabbit hole! When I came out of it, I had published several Ubuntu themes on the Google Web Store. Be warned, they are very orange, and that is not a bug, it is a feature!

If I managed to get you interested, take a look at this post on the Ubuntu Discourse to see if there is one theme you like.
While it was a fun weekend project for me, I realize I stand on the shoulders of giants. I want to thank all the community members who submitted their artwork for the Ubuntu wallpaper competitions. I also would like to thank the artists at Canonical that create the official artwork every release.
If you want to get involved, you can help test the themes, report issues in this thread, spread the word, or consider submitting your stunning photo or artwork for the next upcoming Ubuntu wallpaper competition.

May be a redesign of this?

Hi, @soumyadghosh and thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, while Firefox has an incredibly powerful and easy theme editor, the browser does not support NTP images without extensions, making the wallpapers not available.
Also, I like to stay within what browsers can do to avoid creating unforseen problems to users. Having said that, perhaps with enough people issuing feature request to Mozilla to merge the NTP image feature in the browser, there could be a path forward.
If you happen to issue a feature request, please let me know, I would be certainly adding my +1 to that!

Thanks, I have to go undo the short circuit this image caused in my brain now. ![:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/images/emoji/twitter/stuck_out_tongue.png?v=12)
Seriously, this is cool.

excellent work! Orange is one of my favorite colors so I’ll definitely be using these on chromium.

It looks like @nuccitheboss and @aaronprisk won again. After hearing how awesome this browser is by those two for the last six months, I had a look at the theming capabilities and wow! I am working to create Ubuntu themes for Vivaldi as well. I have my first batch uploaded and waiting for approval. I’ll post updates here once those themes are available.

Quick update on Ubuntu browser themes. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who submitted valuable feedback. It was really helpful to get to learn so many use cases. Apologies to all those that have been blinded by too much orange… even if there should be no such thing as “too much orange” around here. ![ ](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/images/emoji/twitter/smile.png?v=12)
Chrome themes
I took some time to make some minor improvements on the color scheme of all themes. All themes tabs and background tabs now take colors from the NTP (Next Tab Picture). While this is a minor change for most users, it has a large impact for those who use vertical tabs.
Changes are under review and new version of the themes will be available in a few days. Meanwhile, I am sharing a sneak peek of one of my favorites ![:eyes: :eyes:](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/images/emoji/twitter/eyes.png?v=12)
Vivaldi themes
Vivaldi themes already follow this updated color scheme.
How to get the themes?
As usual, all published themes are listed on this Discourse post.
Where are Oracular themes?
Now that I updated previous theme color schemes, I am going to publish Oracular Oriole themes for both Chrome and Vivaldi.
