The Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 installation utility hangs up in the guided Setup at 33% during the partition formating. I have looked at older articles on this topic online but none of the workarounds have addressed this issue. Needless to say, I will try to install it when another revision is out. In the mean time, I am putting Ubuntu Server 17.10 on my computer for my temporary test setup…
Anybody that has found a work around in the meantime feel free to share it with me.
Hardware configuration:
Asus Crosshair Motherboard with AMD Athlon X2 4800
8gb ddr2 800
nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB
2 x 150GB WD Raptor HD 10000 RPM
Attempted Work Arounds:
- Ensure that Raid is turned off in the Bios and disconnect second Hard drive to ensure that it was not interfering with installation.

A.) “https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/46060/debian-stucks-at-formatting-33” - I have attempted to pre-format the drive and proceed with the installation. (note: After I pre-formatted the drives, the installation process never fully recognized my partitioning as intended. This could be something that I did or didn’t do correctly. I would chaulk this up to my unfamiliarity with the LVM in Ubuntu. The last time I was getting familiar with linux and only linux install exposure was fedora 8 werewolf. )

Interesting Notes:
A.) Ubuntu Server 17.10 installed without issues.
B.)Ubuntu Desktop 16.04.3 LTS installed without issues.
C.)Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 LTS Format utility within the Installation Utility does not care whether you manually configure or Auto-Configure the drive. The execution process(i.e. when it is actually making changes to the ext4 drive section is where it hangs up.) Another observation is the LVM section of the installation is different when using Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 LTS set my harddrive sectioning for LVM to 149.5 Gb automatically Opposed to Ubuntu Server 17.10 Ubuntu Desktop 16.04.3 LTS which automatically listed it as 150 Gb.
