Ubuntu Flavor Sync Meeting Notes - 13 January 2025

Representatives from the Ubuntu Flavors along with various Canonical and community leads met virtually, on January 13 2025 to discuss the release of Ubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin:

  • Canonical Release Team: Utkarsh Gupta (@utkarsh) is the new main point of contact on the Foundations team.
  • Mauro Gaspari (@ilvipero) spoke of some recent changes in the Canonical Foundations and Desktop teams. All teams remain committed to a smooth and timely release of Ubuntu.
  • New Governance Sync meeting starts Tuesday 14 January 2025, following the success of this Flavor sync meeting. Flavor leads are invited.
  • Remembering and celebrating Steve Langasek
  • Mauro Gaspari (@ilvipero) started a new spec with the goal of defining what an Ubuntu flavor is, and everything related to Ubuntu Flavors, such as requirements, check-ins, perks, infrastructure, required and recommended skill sets, and much more. This is just a starting point and the Flavour teams and the Governance bodies should collaborate and reach an agreement on this. The document will be shared in the Ubuntu Governance Matrix room.
  • Aaron Rainbolt (@arraybolt3) and Michael Mikowski (@mike-mikowski) talked about BTRFS and snapshots. They developed this functionality for Kubuntu Focus, and it is very tied to KDE and Qt. However this is all open source technology available to other flavors. Rollback repository can be found here: kfocus-source/package-rollback at NN-2024-Q3 · kfocus/kfocus-source · GitHub
  • Simon Quigley (@tsimonq2) talked about a new CI/CD system he developed and encouraged other Flavor teams to give it a try.
