Been involve with Linux since 2008 and stuck with Ubuntu ever since I signed up Launchpad (Ubuntu CoC signed at 2012).
2009 was first year I’m participating open source community and joined Ubuntu Malaysia LoCo Team.
Participate multiple Ubuntu related project focusing on bug reporting and translation like Ubuntu Manual project.
With local community, I did manage to help on organising numbers of LoCo events likes Ubuntu Translation Jam, Release Party and open source related activities (could track back my old mailing list back in 2009) and help with l10n Malay (ms_MY) Translation Team and others.
As my day job is mainly as Linux system engineer, most of my project are runs on Ubuntu; from bare metal to IoT. I also do consult my customer by pushing Ubuntu for them to migrate from current infra (yes, I do promote Ubuntu Pro).
Currently active with Asian team on organising Ubuntu Conference Asia (UbuCon Asia) since 2023 with content team and also gave talk mainly on traslating on Ubuntu. Still had active participation as member of Malaysia LoCo team.
Starting 2025, I’ll be act as board chair for UbuCon Asia CoC Committe on handling CoC related reports together with Asia and local hosting team with engagement of Ubuntu Community Council.
Other than Ubuntu, I also an active member of GNOME as part of Asia and Malaysia community members focusing on community engagement and increase desktop marketshare; not just for GNOME but also Ubuntu & Linux as whole, and also helping GNOME team on multiple event’s like GNOME Asia Summit and Linux App Summit (LAS).
Future plans
Keep promoting and encourage Ubuntu as viable option not just for back end infra, but for everyday desktop use to local and probably Asia’s users market along with Ubuntu Membership and it’s perks.
Enhance, enforce and educate community on Ubuntu Code of Conducts information and procedure to help build safe and better environment for community to participate and contibute.
Encourage non-technical contribution mainly on translation on system itself or even the Ubuntu Documentation.
Help to build strong engagement community present in Malaysia along with other Asia community team under UbuCon Asia umbrella.
I met Jipang during my first GNOME Asia, and it is always delightful to meet him at conferences. Whether it be his amazing talks that are funny and insightful, or his organisational skills, he brings great energy to each event.
He was a great help as a global team member for organising the first UbuCon in India and during organising the Ubuntu release party at GNOME Asia. And GNOME Asia Malaysia is still one of the best events I’ve attended.
I believe he will be a great addition to the team and am looking forward to what more he’ll do with the membership
I had the pleasure of meeting Syazwan during UbuCon Asia last year, and he left a strong impression on me as a passionate Ubuntu enthusiast.
Although I’m not part of the UbuCon Asia organizing committee, as an attendee I could clearly see how kind, attentive, and supportive he was to fellow participants throughout the event.
If he becomes an Ubuntu Member, I truly believe his involvement will further strengthen the Ubuntu Malaysia LoCo, and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing a future UbuCon Asia hosted in Malaysia.
I fully support his application — in fact, I think he should have become a Member much earlier😀
I’m very glad to see Syazwan applying for the Ubuntu Membership!
I’ve been collaborating with Syazwan since 2023 in UbuCon Asia Committee (Global team) then worked with him together to help local organizing team every year.
For several year, He’s been not just assisting other organizer but also lead many things to improve the organizing process. His contribution on founding CoC board this year as well as CoC violation measures process and improving Session proposal review process would be good example of this.
For that, I support his application and looking forward to see what he will do as one of Ubuntu Members
It is great to see Jipang’s application !! I have worked with him for almost 3 conferences ( Ubucon + GNOME Asia ), and has always been amazed with his ownership and accountability. He is a genuine friend, big brother and a leader to young contributors like us.
It is great to see that you take this next step.
I invite you to submit your desired meeting date/time via https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-membership-meeting-schedule/55968
If it is agreeable with you - those of us here in the West prefer a Thursday meeting; however, this month’s Thursday does not allow the lead time for the board to assemble. Wednesday time is so early in the AM - long before coffee time :slight_smile
I already submitted my meeting time, but the case may be similar on other side of earth where I’m at. I̶ ̶d̶o̶n̶’̶t̶ ̶m̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶w̶i̶t̶c̶h̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶u̶p̶c̶o̶m̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶J̶u̶l̶y̶ ̶4̶t̶h̶ ̶2̶0̶:̶0̶0̶ ̶U̶T̶C̶ ̶.̶
