Linux NbaBanky 6.11.0-21-generic #21~24.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon Feb 24 16:52:15 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
This is what I have on my device and everything is actually working impeccably. My question is, can I install 6.12.0-20 and still recieve security updates from livepatch like I am now with 6.11.0-21. Thanks fellas…
6.12 will never be a supported Ubuntu kernel version. The next kernel will be 6.14 in 25.04. If you have been referring to our mainline build service, as stated they are for debugging purposes only and are not in any way supported.
Yes that is what I’m referring to, mainline build service. And now I know that none of those are supported. I did not know that either. I’m just going to remove that from my device.
The reason that I’ve asked this question is because I recently installed Kali Linux on one of my devices and it has 6.12. So I was just wondering. If you don’t mind me asking where are you getting this info from? I’m not doubting the integrity of your comments just wondering where can I find this documentation at for future reference’s .
@brettgrand is on the kernel team at Canonical (you can identify Canonical employees by the Ubuntu banner (as opposed to my Ubuntu circle), so he’s basically one of the people that create the information he’s telling you. He has no obligation to cite his sources as he literally is the source.
Ubuntu plucky was using 6.12 up-to a few weeks ago, before it switched to the 6.14 kernel.
The Linux project document what they support; if you want Ubuntu to manage the security patches though, you’ll need to us a Ubuntu supported kernel, what is supported varies on release (LTS releases have stack options; ie. GA, HWE too)
We’re all just humans here, there is no “rank”, even if you are working for Canonical you are still just a human and a user after all, we drink beer as everyone else and we get rid of that beer in the same toilets you use there is no special status of people with the employee tag
As we’re preparing for the next release (Plucky with 6.14 in this case) we might publish interim kernel versions like 6.12 and 6.13 but those are short-lived and not supported.
