I can’t get resolution on my monitor either. The screen alternates between pixelated vibrating dots and pitch black. My system is as follows:
Memory : 1.82 TB
Graphics: 2 GB graphics card
RAM; 16 GB Ram
Processor: AMD Ryzen5 9600x 6-core
My set up is as follows, a 19" LG monitor hooked up to the HDMI cable to the graphics card. It worked great when I was installing Ubuntu in safe mode but when I switched to dual boot partition of Ubuntu suddenly the system couldn’t size the monitor. What’s happening?
Your Windows screenshots did not give any info about this device?
Secondly, remove/disable the graphics card and test your display (in a “Try Ubuntu” live session) using the the built-in Linux kernel drivers for AMD processors.
I can only send you windows screenshots because I couldn’t bring up anything on ubuntu. Anyway, the scene has all changed. I actually loaded the newest version of Ubuntu 24. xx but the only way I can get it is by Ubuntu advanced functions, Ubuntu with linux recovery mode. The screen resolution is set at 1024x 900 and I can’t change it.
If you are choosing recovery mode that has the “nomodeset” parameter and the resolution of 1024x900/768 is all you can expect to get.
You will need to load the usb stick in normal mode to get higher resolutions.
I would advise to download different flavours of Ubuntu to see if one of them will work with your system. Try Lubuntu, Kubuntu and as a last resort Linux Mint. You obviously are having difficulties with standard Ubuntu.
I’m experiencing difficulty achieving proper scaling when using my Lenovo L28u-30 4K monitor in a dual-monitor setup with my Dell Latitude 7285.
Currently, the maximum resolution I can get on the Lenovo L28u-30 is 2K (2560x1440), which seems to be mirroring the resolution of my Dell Latitude 7285’s internal display. Even if I turn off the laptop’s screen, the external monitor remains capped at 2K.
When I attempt to set the external monitor to its native 4K resolution (3840x2160), everything on the screen becomes too small to be usable. I need a solution for proper display scaling to make the 4K resolution viable.
