I can’t get resolution on my monitor either. The screen alternates between pixelated vibrating dots and pitch black. My system is as follows:
Memory : 1.82 TB
Graphics: 2 GB graphics card
RAM; 16 GB Ram
Processor: AMD Ryzen5 9600x 6-core
My set up is as follows, a 19" LG monitor hooked up to the HDMI cable to the graphics card. It worked great when I was installing Ubuntu in safe mode but when I switched to dual boot partition of Ubuntu suddenly the system couldn’t size the monitor. What’s happening?
@lml98905 Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse
I moved your post to its own thread.
Same and similar are often confusing and it is better to have your own topic where we can give you better advice.
Thanks.
If using sddm try this -
‘’'Edit or create the script /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup and add the line
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 59.94’‘’
You will need to set the correct resolution for your LG monitor
You haven’t given us enough info on your system, what flavour ubuntu, display manager etc.

Didn’t work at that. Also it cuts it off at the top and bottom and the right slider bar when I’m in Windows.

It cannot affect your windows installation, impossible. You did not give any system details…
It did when I changed the monitor resolution to 1920x1080. What system details did you need? I couldn’t print out the system information list.
For a start show us the full output of terminal command
inxi -Fzx
This will show us a lot more about your software and hardware.
How would I get into terminal command in the first place? All I get on my monitor is vibrating pixels alternating with pitch black screens.
How about this? Will this do?
You are having issues with Linux, why show us Windows screenshots? It doesn’t make sense.
Just tell us the Linux flavour you are trying to install and it’s version. That’s all we have been asking you since your first post.
Your Windows screenshots did not give any info about this device?
Secondly, remove/disable the graphics card and test your display (in a “Try Ubuntu” live session) using the the built-in Linux kernel drivers for AMD processors.
