Opertunity Open Source Conference - IITK 2024

Recently I attended the second edition of OOSC - 2024 with @till-kamppeter, @aaryan-porwal, @abhigyanghosh30, @utkarshbhatthere at IIT Kanpur. OOSC is a great attempt by Till & Aveek to promote open source among student communities - with tracks on OpenPrinting, Zephyr, Security, Documentation and finally a day-long hackathon!

I learned about the conference quite late and as the venue was just a 2-hour train ride away from my location, I couldn’t miss the chance to meet fellow Canonical people. Shoutout to Till & the organizing team for arranging my participation on a short notice

There were 2 parallel tracks for talks and a workshop track running in parallel. There were many awesome sessions and I had fun attending Till’s talk on OpenPrinting and CUPS, Utkarsh’s workshop on Microceph, Vlad’s talk on how he added wifi printing support in legacy printers using CUPS and Ubuntu and a lot of other low-level system talks on firmware, eBPF based security mechanisms that gave my inner nerd a lot of topics to explore!

I was part of the Apply and Work at Canonical where everyone shared their journey of being part of Canonical.

The conference was live-steamed on UbuntuAir. You can find them below.

We ended day 2 of the event with a networking dinner hosted by the organizing team at IIT Kanpur and the event was finally concluded by a day-long hackathon!

And the highlight of the event.
