Hi everyone, I am applying for Ubuntu Membership. I am a little overdue…
About Me
I am the lead of Ubuntu Cinnamon. Creator of the thread where it all began, and the current maintainer of the official flavor.
Outside of Ubuntu Cinnamon, I do other projects, such as:
Decompiling LEGO Island (1997) and porting it to the 3DS
Running a HTTP server on a Wii U, integrating it with IoT
I am a rising high school senior at the Academy of Technology and Computer Science at Bergen County Academies, a magnet school in the United States.
I go into a lot more detail on my draft PPU Application of my story, but to be brief, Ubuntu was the first Linux distro I ever used. Growing Ubuntu Cinnamon from remix to flavor taught me a lot about ope source, computers and technology in general. Ubuntu has taught me so much.
Brief Summary of Contributions to Ubuntu
Ubuntu Cinnamon Lead, from an idea, to a remix, to an official flavor
Contributor of Debian Cinnamon team
Maintainer of cppimport, kotlin-mode, pyupgrade, rust-procfs, sc-im in Debian (packages are also available in Ubuntu)
As I continue to explore various areas of technology, I have been less active in the Ubuntu space. So, try to fix that and apply Ubuntu into these other areas of technology I have been looking at.

I think it goes without saying that being a flavor lead is a lot of work and is a huge investment in Ubuntu as a whole. Ubuntu Cinnamon is really an awesome-looking flavor, something I would almost certainly enjoy daily-driving, and from my work maintaining Lubuntu I know how hard it is to make something daily-drive-able. He’s not only made it as nice as he has, but he’s kept it that way for multiple flavor cycles. If that doesn’t count as a significant and sustained contribution, I don’t know what does.
I hereby endorse Joshua Peisach’s Ubuntu Membership application.
(I realize at the time of this writing the application is still a draft, but I doubt my answer will change once the post is fully fleshed out, and I have limited enough time that I felt it was better to get this out there before I got sucked into hours of work rather than wait until it was too late :P)
I wholeheartedly endorse @itzswirlz to be an Ubuntu Member. Leading Ubuntu Cinnamon is no small feat. I’ve been guiding him along the way and I’d consider Ubuntu Cinnamon significant, and he’s been at it for several years now, so that meets the sustained piece. So, that’s significant and sustained.
IMO, this is a no-brainer. Joshua is a perfect candidate for Ubuntu Membership.
Joshua Peisach has been a diligent contributor to Ubuntu for what seems like ages. Aside from his astonishing work on Ubuntu Cinnamon, he’s also been a valuable and rational voice for the Ubuntu project as a whole as we’ve consolidated communication between members.
It is without doubt that his courage and dedication are an honor to the Ubuntu project as a whole, and I am happy to endorse his application to recognize his membership to the Ubuntu project.
We’ve actually been discussing moving them here on the Discourse so the community (and prospective members) can see the interview and voting process take place.
