My name is Gyuseok Jung. I first joined the Ubuntu Korea Community in 2015 and have been actively involved ever since. Since 2019, I have been serving as an administrator for the Ubuntu Korea Community, primarily managing the community’s infrastructure. I have organized events such as Ubucon Asia 2021, Ubucon Asia 2022, and regular events for the Ubuntu Korea Community. Additionally, I have been working as a DevOps Engineer since December 2020.
Glad to see @Silica finally applying for the membership.
Gyuseok has been contributing to Korean LoCo since 2019 - Mostly deploying or operating Korean LoCo’s online service infrastructure. (Such as Korean LoCo forum on discourse.ubuntu-kr.org Wiki on wiki.ubuntu-kr.org and old.wiki.ubuntu-kr.org and few more). One of his biggist achievement with this role would be Korean LoCo Forum migration from PhpBB to Discourse without lossing any forum data cumulated since March 2008.
He’s been also dedicated with organizing Ubuntu events in Korea for many years. Including UbuCon Asia (2021, 2022), UbuCon Korea(2023, 2024) usually contributing to building event website and editing video recording after the event. As well as Ubuntu Korean localization activity on launchpad.
Looking forward to see what he’ll be doing next as a Ubuntu Member
I would like to recommend Gyuseok Jung for Ubuntu membership. Being the lead of the Ubuntu Korea Community, I have had a great chance of working closely with Gyuseok since he joined the community in 2015. During this period, his commitment and technical capabilities have been invaluable to our community.
Gyuseok is an administrator of our community infrastructure. He successfully migrated our aging phpBB forum to Discourse in 2022, greatly renewing the user experience and updating the site. Since then, he has continued to keep important community resources such as wiki.ubuntu-kr.org and discourse.ubuntu-kr.org stable and ready for use.
Beyond his technical contributions, Gyuseok has also served well as an event organizer. He was instrumental in organizing Ubucon Asia 2021 and 2022, serving as Tech/Video Lead and later taking on broader responsibilities. His organizing work with events such as Ubucon Korea, including General Organizer for 2024, has been a key influence in building collaboration and learning within the Ubuntu community both locally and regionally.
He has contributed to the l10n, organizing seminars, and creating videos for our community. His contributions in many aspects indeed prove his interest in open-source software and determination to create a healthy Ubuntu ecosystem in Korea and elsewhere.
To my knowledge, Gyuseok is really an Ubuntu community guy. He is diligent, reliable, and cooperative. I strongly believe that his further contributions will also be very valuable and long-lasting.
I hereby wholeheartedly support Gyuseok’s application for Ubuntu membership and am confident he will be an asset to the broader Ubuntu community.
Gyuseok is a longstanding member of the Ubuntu Korea LoCo, and his passion for the community can be seen through the Ubuntu Korea Youtube Channel.
From the young age, he has actively engaged in studies, presentations, and organizing events to support the Ubuntu Korea LoCo. Now He is a cornerstone in preserving our community’s invaluable history.
Because of these preserved records, I developed a deep love for the Ubuntu Korea Community, which ultimately led me to join. I am confident that Gyuseok has been essential to the growth of Korea’s Ubuntu ecosystem by creating and preserving these records, and I strongly support his membership application
Gyuseok has been fulfilling the role of organizer for the Ubuntu Korea LoCo team since 2015, with responsibility for managing discourse.ubuntu-kr.org, wiki.ubuntu-kr.org, old.wiki.ubuntu-kr.org and other key platforms. As a fellow Ubuntu Korea LoCo organizer, I can confirm that this is sufficient evidence of his dedication to the community. He has played a pivotal role in modernizing and maintaining essential infrastructure, including the seamless migration of the community forum from an old phpBB platform to Discourse and ensuring the continuous operation and accessibility of community platforms.
In addition to his contributions to infrastructure, Gyuseok has also played a pivotal role in organizing and leading significant community events, including Ubucon Korea and Ubucon Asia. He has served as a key organizer across multiple roles, including Tech Lead, General Organizer, and Video Lead, consistently demonstrating his ability to manage complex projects and unite the community. His leadership has directly contributed to the growth of the Ubuntu community in Korea and Asia. Furthermore, Gyuseok actively supports the localization efforts of Ubuntu projects and fosters collaboration within the broader open-source ecosystem. His dedication and technical expertise, combined with his unwavering commitment to Ubuntu’s philosophy of “Humanity to Others”, make him a valuable asset to the community. I strongly support his Ubuntu Membership application and have no doubt that his contributions will continue to leave a lasting, positive impact.
