Hi everyone, below you will find the updates from the Desktop team from the last week.

We also have our weekly meeting on IRC. We meet on Tuesday at 13:30 UTC in #ubuntu-desktop on Freenode. There will be an “Any Other Business” section at the end where you are welcome to raise topics. These topics might be discussed during the meeting, or afterwards depending on the time, depth of conversation, topic and so on.

Gnome Shell:

Batch clip rectangles into a single upload: This fixes a performance regression in 3.35.2. Redesigned this week and resolved all discussions. Landed in mutter 3.35.3.
Continued investigating apparently unnecessary frame skips in gnome-shell. Finally figured out they were necessary and it was just a fault in my measurements. Made a first attempt at a general solution for this and other shell animations’ performance. Made a second more successful attempt at a fix, but it’s not the universal shell animation performance fix I was hoping for.
clutter: More accurate & detailed CLUTTER_SHOW_FPS: Redesigned slightly to better measure everything that is slowing down the delivery of the next frame to the screen.
Honour CLUTTER_ACTOR_NO_LAYOUT more efficiently: Small changes to make debugging easier and a small optimization.

Release bugs:

PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login: Prepared an SRU for eoan this week. Now in the upload queue, thanks Seb.
