  • Enabled support for jpeg-xl by default in Ubuntu Desktop 25.04 after approval from the MIR and Release Teams.
  • Glycin is a new image loader and editor library written in Rust from GNOME. We got an unexpected merge request this week to update Debian’s glycin package to build gir and library packages. It was unexpected because we didn’t know we were missing these things. I followed up by adding a symbols file for the .so library and updating the GIR handling to the latest best practices. The library package will be helpful when gdk-pixbuf switches to using glycin by default which could happen as early as GNOME 49. Seb has already filed the MIR paperwork for glycin so Ubuntu Desktop is on track to include glycin by default in 25.10.

  • Helped with some parts of Debian’s libgit2 1.9 transition. I’m happy that Debian has gone ahead with this transition since it helps smooth the amount of work needed now and for Ubuntu 25.10 (because Ubuntu did this transition early).
  • Alerted the Debian maintainer with what is needed to finish cjs’s switch to build with mozjs128
  • Converted the tepl source to libgedit-tepl to match the upstream rename

  • Fixed the zigpy-zigate build
  • Fixed the coreboot build failure on Ubuntu 25.04 by forcing -O2 instead of -O3
  • Sponsored fixes from Pushkar and Alessandro for various issues blocking packages from migrating out of plucky-proposed.
  • Filed a bunch of Ubuntu removal bugs to help with plucky-proposed cleanup

  • Miscellaneous package updates and fixes

are the Gnome 48.1 updates frozen out until after 25.04 release?

GNOME 48.1 is not scheduled for release until April 12th. Only Mutter 48.1 was released early because of too many issues in Mutter 48.0.

This means the rest of GNOME 48.1 won’t be released until after Ubuntu 25.04 final freeze.
