Desktop Team Integration Squad Updates – Monday 24th March 2025

Hi everyone, below you will find updates from the Desktop team’s Integration squad from the last week. If you’re interested in discussing a topic please start a thread in the Desktop area of Discourse.

Last week’s notes are here: Desktop Team Integration Squad Updates – Monday 17th March 2025

  • Finished packaging GNOME 48.0 for Debian Testing and Ubuntu 25.04 in time for Ubuntu 25.04 Beta this week. (This was a team effort.)
  • Showtime, a new video player in GNOME Incubator is landing in universe for Ubuntu 25.04 today. To be clear, Showtime will be available for install but is not one of the preinstalled apps in Ubuntu’s default install. Thank you Danial Behzadi for much of the initial packaging work here.

  • Updated the Papers app for Ubuntu and Debian to 48.0. This packaging update also included an update of the AppArmor profile.
  • Figured out how to use cargo-vendor-filterer to reduce what is included in our vendoring for librsvg and Papers. This reduced the .debian.tar.xz size from 17 MB to 10 MB for librsvg.
  • Sponsored Alessandro’s work to prefer Papers over Evince for GTK3 and xdg-desktop-portal-gnome in Ubuntu 25.04 and Debian Testing.

  • Enabled testing of the v1_26 feature in Debian’s gstreamer rust packages
  • Enabled webkit2gtk to build with the default clang (20) on all Ubuntu 25.04 architectures where it uses clang except for armhf where I am having it use clang-19 because of a build failure there
  • Packaging work related to the libva MIR

  • Rebuilt shared-mime-info to avoid a warning seen when using apt to update packages on the command line.
  • Helped with completing several Ubuntu 25.04 transitions and cleaning up the NBS report
  • Miscellaneous bug reporting, bug triage, bug fixing, and packaging updates
