Desktop Team Integration Squad Updates – Monday 24th February 2025

Hi everyone, below you will find updates from the Desktop team’s Integration squad from the last week. If you’re interested in discussing a topic please start a thread in the Desktop area of Discourse .

Last week’s notes are here: Desktop Team Integration Squad Updates – Monday 17th February 2025

  • Vendored the Papers app as required by current Ubuntu MIR team policy for Rust apps
  • Wrote a manual test plan for Papers since it currently doesn’t have automated tests
  • The MIR for Papers passed the non-security checks but it needs a Ubuntu Security team review before we can switch from Evince to Papers for Ubuntu Desktop 25.04

  • Began the libimobiledevice transition after the required MIR was approved
  • Began the tracker->tinysparql transition for Debian and Ubuntu
  • Filed MIR re-review paperwork for tinysparql and localsearch (what tracker-miners is being renamed to) because the MIR team now wants re-reviews for renamed source packages if the previous MIR was completed long ago.

  • Began integrating xdg-terminal-exec for Ubuntu Desktop 25.04 after its MIR was approved
  • Cherry-picked gnome-terminal and ptyxis fixes for this feature, after manual testing revealed that their integration had issues.

  • Updated Ubuntu’s NetworkManager package to 1.52 RC
  • Reported an apparmor regression for sbuild unshare and triaged a regression for wifi. These only affected Ubuntu 25.04 and have already been fixed.
  • Adopted the Enter TeX app for the Debian GNOME team after Andreas Tille began the salvaging process. Enter TeX is very closely associated with the gedit packages which are maintained by the Debian GNOME team already. Enter TeX was previously known as GNOME LaTeX and Latexila

  • Helped with getting the Cantarell font switch to the variable version change into Debian and Ubuntu 25.04
  • Miscellaneous other packaging updates and sponsoring as we entered Feature Freeze for Ubuntu 25.04 early today

Highlighted work from others

  • Seb updated our gst-plugins-good1.0 & gst-plugins-bad1.0 patches. Ubuntu 25.04 now has a development version of what will soon be gstreamer 1.26.
  • Simon McVittie completed filing the bugs for GNOME Shell 48 packaged extensions. Getting this list closer to done is a blocker for the GNOME Shell 48 transition for Debian Trixie. The other blocker is a mutter autopkgtest failure we haven’t investigated yet.
  • Ubuntu’s Initial Setup app now supports installing language packs
