Desktop Team Integration Squad Updates – Monday 17th February 2025

Hi everyone, below you will find updates from the Desktop team’s Integration squad from the last week. If you’re interested in discussing a topic please start a thread in the Desktop area of Discourse .

Last week’s notes are here: Desktop Team Integration Squad Updates – Monday 10th February 2025

  • Uploaded GNOME Shell 48 Beta to Ubuntu 25.04. There are lots of pieces to this including updating all packaged GNOME Shell extensions, updating gnome-kiosk, gnome-remote-desktop, and xdg-desktop-portal-gnome. This time we needed to update gdm also. Ubuntu 25.04 is the first distro to include GNOME Shell 48 Beta. No extra repo needed.
  • Uploaded gnome-control-center 48 Beta to Ubuntu 25.04 (although we need to update libadwaita for this to build)
  • Uploaded gtk4 4.17.4 to Debian Unstable and Ubuntu 25.04. Special thanks to Alessandro who fixed 2 autopkgtest issues to get this done.

  • Finished the rust-wayland transition in Ubuntu
  • Finished the rust-zbus 5 transition in Ubuntu. Helped with uploading the packages Matthias Geiger prepared in Experimental to Unstable. This is a prequisite to getting Loupe 48 Beta into Debian and Ubuntu.

  • Packaged gedit 48.1. This required multiple packages to go through the NEW queue because of soname bumps and a new source package. I also verified that gedit restored translations. We didn’t package gedit 47 because of this issue but my gentle (I hope) prodding upstream helped fix this.
  • Packaged librsvg 2.59.90 (2.60 Beta) which managed to build on Debian’s mips64el this time.
  • Prepared an NMU for fast-float so that we can update vte2.91, gnome-terminal, and ptyxis to 48 Beta.

  • Finished most of the other GNOME 48 Beta updates for Debian and Ubuntu 25.04. (GNOME Shell 48 Beta and related packages are still in Debian Experimental because there are a lot more packaged extensions there and because of an autopkgtest failure that needs to be handled)
  • Filed multiple MIRs: libva, papers, rust-gst-plugin-gtk4
  • Posting early because I’m taking a long weekend
