Although Ubuntu has always and will always be free, we provide a form that our users can use to donate money to the project. These donations are used by Canonical to support and improve the areas that the contributor feels are most important. Donations made to “Community projects” are used to fund people and projects outside of Canonical in ways that benefit the Ubuntu community.
How Donations Help the Community
Here are a few examples of how financial donations help our community:
- Reimbursing travel and accommodation costs when sending community members to events.
- Running costs and sponsorship for events.
- Equipment used for development and testing.
- Merchandise to show off and give away at events.
