Hi Everyone!
I’m Linnette; I also go by the monikers Ray or Ette, and I look forward to getting to know you and learn as much as I can from you on this forum. As you can probably tell, I am a newbie here, so I will start by saying a little about myself.
I am a self-taught full-stack software engineer with a little over 8 years in the field and a background in Information Technology(IT). In those 8 years, I have worked in different capacities as a Lead individual contributor, Team lead and other collaborative roles. I have also worked in on-site, hybrid and fully remote roles at various organisations, including companies in tech. and non-profit spaces. I also have prior experience in diverse fields, which I believe adds to my skillset as I navigate the world of technology.
I’ve been curious about Canonical for a while now, but I’ve been held back mostly by impostor syndrome. Short version: it is one of the big tech giants, and I felt unready/unequipped in knowledge to take a step. Well, that was until recently, when I applied for a role as a web developer at Canonical, hoping to leverage the knowledge I have gathered so far in that space as a stepping stone to the gates of the next phase of my learning.
That’s how I got here, to this forum.
That said, I enjoy learning and especially figuring out how things work, trying to break them, make them better and simplify them in a quest to democratise tech and therefore its benefits. I ask a lot of deep questions, I see and love to follow patterns, and get insight or inspiration from them, among other things.
So… In the spirit of questions and democratisation:-
- How do I get to the ‘Explain it like I’m 5’ version to get started on here?
- What 3 tips would you share with me as I embark on this journey?
I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully also getting to know about you, what you do at Canonical, and what brings you the most joy in your work here.
Thank you in advance!
Ray.
