I found the Xubuntu sub-topic a couple of days ago. I saw there were no topics posted. Today, I found my way back to Xubuntu topics and still found no entries. I decided to start one.
I have been downloading and installing Ubuntu since Dapper Drake, switching over with Xubuntu 18.04. I did not switch because I needed the lightness of the install, but I liked the simple, logicality of the XFCE interface. I have four computers that all have Xubuntu installed on them, plus the laptop my wife uses.
How long have you been using Xubuntu?
Why did you decide on Xubuntu?

My road to Xubuntu too had bumps, twists, and turns from an initial introduction to 'buntu.
My foray began with Kubuntu 9.04 - refugee from XP - The documentation won me over
The eye candy of Kubuntu did not appeal to me →
Ubuntu 9.10 - climbing up that learning curve →
Ubuntu 10.04 (to this day my favorite release) →
Ubuntu 12.04 – upstart and network changes resulted in a sluggish system (old old hardware by this time) →
14.04 Xubuntu ran much faster - and I had an appreciation for KISS, and one could easily understand configuration options →
16.04 saw a SSD hardware upgrade - another speed increase →
22.04: Daughter’s hand me down gaming rig that I installed my drives into →
24.04 current - now why do I stay with Xubuntu when I have great resources ?
Here’s that story.
xfce is “just works™” technology (in spite of channel side decorations), Light weight, no frills except what you add, simple DE that gets out of my way and lets me get on with what I have to get done, Finally rock solid - I have experienced zero breakage since 16.04 - just keeps on working; doing all I require of it !
-me likes simple-
Off-topic, I know, but it’s funny how many times I see people saying this.
Totally agree of course
I moved from Ubuntu to Xubuntu when unity DE appeared backn in about 2010 or 2011; it’s so long ago i can’t recall exactly when it was and it doesnt really matter anyway.
I have tried just about all the available DEs but nothing works as well for me, or is as straightforward as Xfce and Xubuntu. I used gnome2 when I moved from XP to Ubuntu in 2005 and was delighted with that as a useful and simple DE but then Unity came along, and even worse in my opinion gnome3, whichhas now moved even further away from whst I consider usable.
I know many disagree with me but that’s one of the delights of Linux, ie we have choices!
Hello all,
Xubuntu has always been a favorite because of the Xfce DE.
I read a lot about how some folks don’t care for the simple old fashion look of Xfce.
That plain simple old fashion look is just one of the reasons I like Xubuntu not to mention the low on system resources.
In my early days of becoming a Linux user Trusty Tahr I had low powered desktops so a low system resource Linux distro is what I used.
These days that’s not the case I’ve moved up to 8.0 GB and 16.0 GB of memory and quad core processors with HD processor graphics or APUs.
But I’m still using the light weight Linux distros as it’s just what I’m used to and most important is they do what I need to do.
I prefer to use the minimal install as I like to install the software I need and then only if and when I need a particular software.
I use Snap packages without complaints although I only use what Snaps come as default but they work problem free on my Frankenstein builds.
Anyway just thought I give my few bits to the Xubuntu thread.
Have a great day or great evening depending on where you call home on this planet.
