X.org, xwayland/nvidia....etc. Is it all real reason to worry?

Posting here for the Ubuntu crew take on all of this. Phoronix and a few other sites have cause quite a stir with this article- https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=XServer-Abandonware
How much of a thorn is this as concerns the future of Ubuntu on the desktop? Is it a tempest in a teacup? I’m not a developer by any stretch. I see Ubuntu contributors lending helping hands in areas like GNOME and CUPS, so I wonder if that is the case in these areas as well? At any rate, thank you all for the work that you do!

I think the problem is real but not yet serious.

Xorg is still getting fixes as you can see here, so it has not been abandoned. But I agree that the number of people interested to fix and maintain Xorg appears to be shrinking. The Ubuntu desktop team has been watching and discussing the issue for at least a year now.
