Want to Install Nvidia Drivers

Ubuntu Version:
25.10

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
GNOME

Problem Description:
I’d like to install the Nvidia drivers for my graphics card.
If I go to software Update → Settings → Additional Drivers, it tells me that no additional drivers are available.

As far as I know, right now the PC has the Nouveau driver installed, so it should be possible to switch to the Nvidia one.

Hello tb75252 - Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse

Please show us what hardware we are working with.
Post back -between code tags - the outputs of terminal commands:

lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12
sudo lshw -C display

-see what tale gets told-

Tread carefully when looking to install NVIDIA drivers. There appears to be issues experienced with compatibility between the newer Kernel versions and the drivers.

You may wish to review some of the issues raised in the following, so as to get your head wrapped around the problems and plan your approach to a solution that best fits your circumstance:

Hoo Boy -

Old card that is no longer supported in tree - takes the 390 version driver. The drivers-tool was not lying to you.
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3142/~/support-timeframes-for-unix-legacy-gpu-releases

The last release that offered support for the GT620 card was 22.04

Now all this said there are two sites that “say” they have patches to work with the later kernels.

However, I can not vouch for these methods as I have not used either. Use at your own risk.
What do you hope to gain that the open source nouveau driver does not provide ?

-is the risk worth the gain-
