VirtualBox Kubuntu 25.04

Ubuntu Version:

Kubuntu 25.04

Desktop Environment (if applicable):

KDE

Problem Description:

Hello everyone. I use VirtualBox a lot for virtualization with VMs. Has anyone tested it working correctly on Kubuntu or Ubuntu distributions?

I’ve seen that you can install VirtualBox from the APT repository, but I’m not sure if this installation and the extension pack would be sufficient.
I understand this would be the best and most secure installation option.

Thank you very much, and I apologize for my newbie questions.

I can only speak from my experience.

I installed VirtualBox from the repositories but without any extension packs.

Works perfectly for my needs (which are basic; testing new releases, testing scripts etc.).

Hope this helps.

I’ll try it from the repositories, and it might work without any problems. Thanks a lot.

I have ran vm’s in virtual box for about 14 years I always download it from there site because it is a program I like to keep updated to the latest for everything else I use the repository’s.

I do install the extension packs.

Doesn’t it update the repositories with update and upgrade? I understand it’s slower than with the .deb package, but it should still update, right?

Do you take any additional security measures?
Thanks.

Not third party applications. When the next release comes out it might be an updated version or it might not but it will never be the latest.

A post was split to a new topic: VirtualBox 7.0.20 not working on Ubuntu 25.04

I understand. However, even though it takes longer to update, by doing so through the official repository, we supposedly minimize attack surfaces and avoid risks, right?
And if you install it from the .deb, how do you know when there’s a new update? Do you get a pop-up warning you? Thanks

@Wild_Man Do you have any further information? Thank you very much.
