I just installed Xubuntu 24.04 LTS on an HP Laptop. After the install I rebooted, then connected to Wi-Fi for the first time and was presented two choices, my USB adapter (RTL8188EU) as well as the internal PCI adapter. I always use the USB adapter due to it being faster and having better range. I connected to it and it worked perfectly. I then opened up the terminal and began to update the system. After updating, I rebooted the laptop and my USB adapter is no longer displayed as a connection option, only the internal PCI.
I then used my Xubuntu live USB to check it as I did before installing, and it does present me the two options while using the Live system.
If you boot with the USB device dethatched and log in, then attach the device, is it different?
If not, then can you please run:
sudo lshw -C network; dmesg | tail; lsusb
and give the full output.
Thanks
The USB adapter does connect when I plug it in. After reboots it does not.
Here is the output you requested:
