Upgrading to 24.04 (LVM)

Ubuntu Version:

22.04

Desktop Environment (if applicable):

Mate

Problem Description:

I want to upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 - I have done this numerous times since 8.04 and always use Something Else and then configure the system to what I want. To date I have always had separate / and /home partitions. The new install layout of 24.04 is different (no Something Else which could confuse new users following web posts) but I can work that out. My nervousness is that last year I converted to LVM. (Only for my main 1T HD - I have other HDs but I use them for other purposes; e.g. backup). Attached is what the 24.04 installer offers me (pic1) and what my main HD looks like (pic2). I’m assuming logically, in terms of the new installer, I would choose nvme0np2 and then select change. Would this then give me the options to format and install in / and to leave /home unformatted?

What I’ve Tried:

You’re saying that you want to upgrade, but you’re talking about using the installer, which is for a fresh installation, not an upgrade.

So, I’m a bit confused.

Maybe just use the upgrade option rather than a fresh installation? It’s pretty good these days, but do a full backup beforehand just in case.

paddylandau - Sorry, I didn’t realise this post actually got posted. I’m still struggling somewhat with the new Discourse way of posting/editing etc. I have opened a new thread as I did get as far installing 24.04 but I have a new issue!
