Upgrade Versus Update When Using the Software Update App

Software Update sometimes uses the word “upgrade”, especially when doing what it calls a “partial upgrade”. It scares me to death to do a “partial upgrade” because it sounds like I’ll be upgrading to the next version of Ubuntu, instead of simply updating a few files. Consider only using the word “upgrade” when upgrading to a new version of Ubuntu; e.g., upgrading from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04. And use the word “update” to only mean getting the latest version of files for the current distro.
