My website is running on Ubuntu 20.04 with a LEMP stack and I need to upgrade Ubuntu to 24.04 but am very nervous about what the upgrade to Ubuntu will do to the LEMP stack. I am fairly certain this would have to be done in 2 stages, the first being from 20.04 to 22.04 and the second being from 22.04 to 24.04 which would make the upgrade much more difficult and time consuming.
As an alternative to upgrading Ubuntu and the LEMP stack (and Wordpress), I am considering building a new server with an entirely new LEMP stack starting from scratch and migrating my website from the old server to the new one.
I would appreciate any words of wisdom to help me decide whether to build a new server or upgrade the current server and any insights to the pitfalls when doing the upgrade. Also, if anyone knows of a tutorial to guide me through the upgrade, please let me know where to find it.
if there are plugins, wordpress[dot]com is probably for that… and if not, admin needs some duty… but there are also without database and wordpress possibilities… wordpress is a tool for those who knows what to do and don’t know how to do(but a space for IT services (even huge corporations) also who know what to do also … and publishing and authors is only emerging world as some commerce addon as blog benefit…
My database is backed up and my entire server is backed up with 2 copies, so no worries there. I built the server, LEMP stack and Wordpress website and have no qualms about building a new one. It’s just going to take a bunch of time. I know I can upgrade Ubuntu and work out any problems with the other components of the system given enough time, but I have never done it and don’t have a good idea of what problems I will encounter.
I suspect someone has been through this nutroll before me and I’m hoping to pick his/her brain about what problems I will encounter if I go the upgrade route and if it’s easier and quicker to build from scratch given that the upgrade will have to be done twice to get to 24.04 from 20.04…
