I would like to add a warning at the start of this tutorial based on the discussion here:
However, the tutorial is not a wiki and therefore I cannot edit.
I see the OP is also unlikely to return anytime soon?
How can we resolve this to allow editing?
I say let the moderators discuss if this should be added, then you can write what you want added if we decide it should be and a moderator can add it.

My suggestion is to get consensus on exactly what needs to be edited (to avoid a rollback war).
To get that consensus here, in this topic.
Then a moderator can make the edit in the tutorial.
This also provides the Web Team a chance to weigh in, as the tutorial belongs to them.
“Install Ubuntu Desktop” is the backend content for the similarly-named and highly popular item at tutorials.ubuntu.com, so we do want to be careful to keep the format, the positive attitude, and the well-thought structure of the original.
