Ubuntu/X crashes - video driver problem?

Hi,
My video card died and I have replaced it with a geforce gt 710 card.
Ever since I did, Ubuntu/X crashes a lot and I have to kill the power to reboot the computer. The mouse may also be involved.
I have Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, on an I3 computer.

I figure that I need to update the video driver?
I have searched the web but am not finding anything that helps. The results of the 3 most common suggestions are as follows:

Software & Updates > additional drivers,
Is empty.

ubuntu-drivers devices
ubuntu-drivers list
both return nothing.

apt search nvidia-driver
finds nothing.

I am a bit at a loss to know what to do. I am new to Ubuntu.

Open the “Software and Updates” application and check if the “restricted” component is enabled, this is where the proprietary drivers live …

Your GFX card should work without issue. I had one of these in one of my systems until a few months ago when I decided to go all integrated graphics processors. Just follow the advice from @ogra in the previous reply.

I apologise for my tardy response. Life threw me a curve ball.

I had to toggle the repository to another mirror then back to the original mirror. Then it crashed trying to update cache.

I updated the cache using apt-get then the additional drivers showed up.

Touch wood, I hope this cures the crashes now.
Time will tell.

Thank you very much for your help.
