I’ve just test for the first time the unity desktop, and I have to say that I like it, it would be good if the team makes it an official flavor. I don’t know how my comment would support your proposal but I just want to say good job man and thanks for the initiative.

The latest version is the best by far since you’ve started this project. I hope it is accepted!

Very happy to hear this news.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion, it would be to change the dependencies of the Unity desktop and remove the dependency on the gnome-shell package. Unity never used to depend on GNOME or need it installed so I don’t see why that is there.

I would further suggest removing all the GNOME accessories (GEdit, etc.) and replacing them with the ones from Ubuntu MATE, which is an official remix and so should all be in the Universe repos. This would have the benefit of them all having traditional menu bars, instead of the GNOME-like CSD which do not integrate well with Unity.

If I can help, I’d be happy to.

hey @lproven! Ubuntu Unity 22.04 actually doesn’t include the gnome-shell package. Also, we’re replacing most of the GNOME apps with MATE apps in 22.10.

Thank you, as always, for your feedback and support
