Abstract

Ubuntu’s release process is evolving — and starting with the 25.10 cycle, Canonical and the Ubuntu Release team have introduced monthly snapshots of the development release. But what does that actually mean?

This talk dives into the why, what, and how of Ubuntu monthly snapshots: why we’re doing them, what’s involved in running the full release process monthly, and how it’s helping us modernize the entire release toolchain — from image definition to build, test, and publish. We’ll cover how this effort helps us identify outdated practices, improve automation, and pave the way for a more streamlined, scalable, and sustainable Ubuntu release process.

Expect a behind-the-scenes tour of the progress so far, what challenges we’ve tackled, and what’s coming next. If you’ve ever been curious about how Ubuntu gets released — this is your ticket to the inside track.

Speaker(s) bio

Utkarsh is the Release Management lead at Canonical and a member of the Ubuntu Release team. He’s been an Ubuntu Core Developer for over four years and somehow still finds time for approximately 786 hobbies (give or take). When not wrangling releases or fixing things before they break, he’s probably adding a new hobby to the list.
