From March 7th to 9th, 2025 , Nepal witnessed an incredible 48-hour coding marathon—Sandbox Hackathon , where 27 teams from across the country came together to build tech solutions addressing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), disabilities, and marginalized communities . The theme, “Walking with the Excluded,” inspired participants to develop groundbreaking projects, from an app empowering LGBTQI+ communities to a vision-assistive tool for blind individuals .
As a community partner, Ubuntu Nepal actively contributed to the hackathon’s success! We collaborated with SXC Collabrains to deliver a dedicated Git and GitHub session, ensuring participants had the right tools to streamline their development process. Our involvement didn’t stop there—two of our community members stepped up as mentors, providing hands-on guidance to teams, refining their ideas, and assisting with code improvements.
Mentors from the community:
Aaditya Singh
Utsav Bhattarai
Sailesh Singh
Participants from the community:
Aaditya Thapa
Prabesh Shrestha
The event was not just about competition but about empowering developers, fostering inclusivity, and making technology accessible to all—values that Ubuntu Nepal proudly upholds. Seeing young innovators harness open-source technologies to drive social change was truly inspiring!
Also, the community had a small meetup during the hackathon !!
We’re proud to have been part of this journey and can’t wait for more collaborations like this in the future!
Thank you St. Xavier’s College, SXC Collabrains, and GNOME Nepal for the Collaboration.
