I look after a number of friends/neighbours machines and everything is running fine. The coming of Core Desktop is attractive for an obvious reason - it being immutable. I’m a little confused about scripts. I use scripts and put them in /user/bin or /etc mainly, even some apps put things in folders under /. If adding additional HDs one has to access /etc/fstab. From my little reading about Core Desktop the root system is read only (apart from /homeI guess). I’m not sure how things like scripts/fstab is going to work. (I understand some scripts can be put in /home but many times I find myself using folders under / - apart from /home).

While I can give the benefit of the doubt that perhaps you thought your topic belonged here, there is a good reason why moderators may, at times, move topics; namely, the smooth operation of this site to help users get the best possible support.
You are unlikely to get much traction here since this is not a support area.
I suggest you edit your post, recategorize it (or we can do it) and formulate your post in a way that volunteers can offer practical suggestions to help you achieve what you want.
Quick edit to help you decide which is the best category:
Either Lounge for more general discussions but not support related or Pre-Release Discussion if you are asking about an upcoming release, though bear in mind that is usually reserved for vanilla Ubuntu releases.
However, if you are looking for support to resolve an issue (current or future), then Support and Help is the best fit.

Apologies - I was not sure where to post this question. I am still getting use to this site after many years spend on the old ubuntu forum. I did not post this in Support and Help as I wanted to ask a general question and not any specific help with a issue that needed fixing. If you could redirect for me that would be very useful as it would show me the correct place to ask this type of question. Thank you.
