Ubuntu 26.04 testing

After an upgrade yesterday:

Dec 14 09:04:38 defiant systemd[1]: Starting gdm.service - GNOME Display Manager…
Dec 14 09:04:38 defiant systemd[1]: Started gdm.service - GNOME Display Manager.
Dec 14 09:04:38 defiant gdm3[2505]: Gdm: Failed to listen on userdb socket: Invalid argument

Any ideas how to fix? gdm3 fails to start = no GUI

Same for me on 2 different partitions with 26.04

Installed on a different partition from ISO dated Dec 12 and updated excluding gdm3 the system boots ok
sudo apt-mark hold gdm3

Thanks for the quick “resolution” :wink:

I have two test computers, one with Nvidia graphics and one with Radeon graphic.
To do an install with USB on the computer with Radeon graphic works fine, but on the computer with Nvidia graphic, the installation of 26.04 will not start. I suppose this is related to the Geforce RTX 5060 Ti I’m using.
Yesterday I decided to use “sudo do-release-upgrade -d”

and that worked excellent.
This is the result

After todays (2026-02-08) update I’m not able to start Steam. When opening the page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

there is a problem with Python

<type ‘exceptions.IOError’>: [Errno 28] No space left on device
args = (28, ‘No space left on device’)
errno = 28
filename = None
message = ‘’
strerror = ‘No space left on device’

Discord doesn’t open either

Screenshot apps do not work apart from the inbuilt one which is missing a time delay function.

Whatsie has stopped working since recent updates

If anyone else gets an error about libpeas failing to upgrade it will in recovery mode > dpkg repair broken packages.

exactly! This was the bug that affected pitivi, yet now is solved!

I clean installed and updated Ubuntu 26.04 Snapshot 3, everything works fine missing sound.

I have too many dummy output sound devices, on my both testing laptops.

I have no idea what whatsie is (snap search found “Feature rich WhatsApp Client for Linux Desktop”), but that ERR_ACCESS_DENIED reminds me of what I see in the opera browser (also snap packaged) when using the 6.19 kernel (I get ERR_FAILED on many sites), but issues exist in other apps too, eg. element-desktop (where I found a bug filed)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2141364

That is the bug that I believe is involved; boot with the older 6.18 kernel and everything will work correctly, but problems with 6.19.

( I’m using opera browser as example only; I’ve not filed a bug report against it; as to me it seems the same problem with element-desktop that was already reported; with all issues occurring only if using the 6.19 kernel, but not 6.18 fitting that report )

Yes, it works with the 6.18 kernel, thank you.

Mousam weather app (flatpak) also stopped working with 6.19 kernel but also works fine with 6.18 kernel.

I tested 26.04 Daily Build 2026-02-08 in TPM FDE mode.
Found new bugs after updating to Snap kernel version 6.19:
WiFi device/rdiver is missing,
App Center can’t install .deb packages
missing sound: too many dummy output sound devices.

Anyway to fix discord not working now?

After the kernel change, I’m facing two issues. First, the aforementioned Nvidia driver—I can’t seem to get it activated correctly. Second, there’s an issue with Snaps, apparently related to AppArmor, which prevents some apps requiring an internet connection from connecting; among them are Telegram and Elecwhats (WhatsApp). Aside from that, I love how fluid Resolute feels. I also really like the Raccoon drawing. I’m looking forward to seeing the official wallpaper next week. Thank you very much.

That issue is now being tracked with Bug #2141298 “AppArmor blocks write(2) to network sockets with L...” : Bugs : snapd

(I made mention of it before using a different (older) bug link; that older report is a now a duplicate of the one I’m using now)
