Ubuntu 25.04 and HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw printer

I’ve never had a problem installing this printer with the ip address, in fact I installed it the other day. But every six months I go back and forth with Ubuntu and Fedora testing them to see which is more suitable to my needs.

I reinstalled Ubuntu 25.04 with April 1st iso and now installing the printer fails, my other printer an HP Envy Inspire color inkjet printer, which is newer installed without any problems, The LaserJet is over three years old.

Anyway if anyone has this LaserJet are you also having a problem with installing it.

One more thing, when I remove preinstalled printer drivers they pop back up, how do I remove them permanately.

Hello @Gort,

Are you using the hplip package to use your HP printer in Ubuntu 25.04? How are you trying to remove the preinstalled printer drivers?

Haven’t used the HPLIP drivers in years, it was always easier to just go to printers add printer and punch in printers IP address. Been a while butI will use HPLIP but I’ll give it a shot.

HPLIP Ubuntu 25.04 not supported. Ubuntu 25.04 will probably sort it out by release date and/or HPLIP will be updated. Will keep results updated if any changes.

Driverless printing is the standard. Linux adopted it and any printer that works in Windows or a Mac should work.

With drivers having too many often confuses things.

Does this show printer?
lpstat -t
ippfind

Lots of detail
lpinfo -l -v

Yes they work but very slow the drivers I install with the ip address is very fast.
