Ubuntu 24.04.3 Wifi Unavailable, network disabled

Ubuntu Version: 24.04.3 LTS
Desktop Environment: GNOME

Greetings,

I freshly installed Ubuntu 24.04.3 from Windows 10 yesterday. I am a Linux beginner. This problem has been frustrating but I’m still excited to try fix it and use Ubuntu.

Since install the computer has been able to recognize my home network, but not connect to it. It has my network saved in ‘saved networks’, but trying to connect to it will give either infinite buffering, or (in later cases) a prompt to input the password which upon doing will attempt to connect for a few seconds before asking again for the password (it is an infinite loop, I inputted it many times to check).

This is the wireless-info.txt file. Please let me know if I’ve done this wrong.

The Network Controller is a Ralink Corp. RT2790 Wireless 802.11n 1T/2R PCIe [1814:0781], the driver is a rt2800pci. Nothing is hard locked or soft locked.

Things I have tried:

  1. Downloading the correct drivers (unsuccessful?):

I couldn’t figure out if the driver was compatible with this system or even a problem at all. I looked for Linux friendly alternative drivers for an RT2790, but either I’m not sure what to look for properly or there aren’t any available (The former is very likely). As far as I have read, this driver and network controller are supported in Linux, but don’t quote me on that.

  1. Changing settings within Wifi router

Next I access my Wifi router admin settings to check if the MAC address was blocked; MAC blocking wasn’t enabled so it isn’t that.

I also tried setting the router to only broadcast certain modes. Specifically set it to no longer broadcast 802.11n (as I’d seen this given as advice to someone with a similar problem to me). This gave a very interesting result; the issue wasn’t fixed but it had changed, instead of Wifi being marked as “unavailable” it was marked as “disabled” under the nmcli device command.
(This is also when attempting to connect to the network via the basic Wifi settings prompted the infinite loop of inputting the password.)

There were other things I tried and I of course rebooted my computer and the Wifi router multiple times to no avail. If anyone can help or just point me in another direction to try troubleshooting I’d be immensely grateful.

Thank you!
